“Out of the Box – Verein für Kunst die Wissen schafft” brings together art, science, and climate communication in accessible formats for a broad public. Founded in Vienna in 2024, the association develops creative, sensory, and interactive installations that spark curiosity, evoke emotional responses, and make climate action understandable.

We aim to reach people beyond the already sensitized climate movement. Our offerings are understandable without prior knowledge and accessible regardless of age, education, or background. Through sensory and participatory approaches, we create personal experiences that do not only convey knowledge but also anchor it emotionally in a lasting way.

The association has been active since 2021 in the environment of Artists for Future Austria, bringing many years of experience in artistic climate work. With projects such as the Climate Time Machine, Out of the Box demonstrates how climate awareness can be effectively and contemporarily communicated in public spaces, educational institutions, and at events in Vienna.

Formats & Impact of the Association

Our core formats include several mobile and flexibly deployable installations as well as participatory experiences: the “Climate Time Machine” makes possible future scenarios physically tangible, the “Awakening Machine” triggers reflection on one’s own actions, and the origami installation “Viel-Falt” connects environmental and diversity topics.

In addition, “Climate Tours” through Vienna’s districts as well as the interactive “Climate Puzzle” offer playful and everyday access to knowledge.

Our offerings are aimed at educational institutions as well as public organizations and companies seeking to raise awareness for climate action.
